Requirements
Camino Real establishes itself by setting the standard requirements to meet the requirements of the employers.
Age: All student enrollment must meet the state mandated age requirement
of 21 years or older. Purpose for this age restriction is due to insurance requirements for employers as well as the age requirement to obtain the Hazardous Material endorsement.
Work History: All enrolling students should be able to provide some form of employment history verification or resume. Most employers will ask for an employment history of at least 3 years. (Not necessarily in the trucking field).

Driving History:
Due to the nature of this field, a student's driving
history is very important. Most employers are going to focus more
on the last 3-5 years of driving history. The reason for this is
to ensure that their insurance company will be able to carry the
student as a driver if hired. Other employers will require that
the student have a minimum of one year of valid licensing in order
to be considered for employment. Employers also check to see if
the student has a pattern of poor driving habits by requesting a
ten-year driving history record. The school as well as Employers
heavily pre-screen students who possess; DUI, DWI, Reckless driving
and other serious moving violations. DMV Points are also a determining
factor when considering an occupation in the transportation industry.
Any more than 3 points in the last 3-5 years can prove to be detrimental
to the student's employment opportunities.
Medical
Background: A driver's medical history is very important
in the transportation industry. Employers must be assured that the
driver does not have medical limitations, which are dangerous, and
or impedes the driver's ability to control or operate the equipment.
Medical conditions such as Eye sight, High blood pressure, Hernia's
or insulin dependent Diabetes's are a few of the elements which
may prohibit a driver from obtaining their license and or employment
in the truck or bus driving field. As mandated by the Department
of Transportation or DOT all prospective commercial drivers must
pass a DOT physical and receive clearance from a DOT Certified physician
through the receipt of a DOT Medical ID card in order to obtain
a valid commercial license or permit.
Criminal
Background: It is unlawful to discriminated or to deny
employment to any person who has a criminal history. In the trucking
industry, the level and nature of the criminal offense and whether
or not the individual is currently on parole or probation will determine
employability. Secondly, any individual who has a criminal history
(felony or misdemeanor) and fails to disclose this information to
the employer will disqualify that person from employment opportunities.
Individuals are urged to notify the school of any criminal offence
within the past 10 years, as employability is determined on a case-by-case
basis.
